Ultrasound
Ultrasound is an effective, non-invasive diagnostic tool that we use in the evaluation and treatment of breast and thyroid masses. The procedure is performed by passing a high-resolution transducer over the skin of the breast or neck to produce a real-time image of the area to be examined.
The image differentiates solid from cystic masses, providing excellent
visualization for diagnosis and for image-guided procedures such as cyst
aspiration, fine-needle aspiration, and core-needle biopsy. Tissue samples
removed are then analyze for benign or malignant changes. Each of our
surgeons is trained in performing these procedures in our office, as
well as in performing the ABBI large-core breast biopsy procedure in
the Rex Breast Care Center.
