Cancer is a dreaded disease that our practice deals with on three levels. The first level is surgery for diagnosis. Without proper diagnosis, effective treatment cannot be rendered. We are familiar with the latest equipment for establishing a diagnosis with minimally invasive surgical techniques. Our practice has pioneered the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma and breast cancer patients in Wake County, using the techniques of radioguided surgery. We have also pioneered the use of radio guided parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathoidism. The technology is expected to have much wider use in the future care of cancer patients into the next millenium.
The next level of care for the cancer patient is surgery for cure. We are conversant with the best techniques and have the skills to render effective treatment for malignant disease. The third level of cancer treatment is palliative surgery. Our surgeons are prepared to help ease pain and suffering to improve the quality of life of the terminally ill patient.
